The curriculum at Cadland Primary School is designed to develop a collaborative community of learners who are determined and resilient, curious and reflective. We place great emphasis on developing confident, fluent readers – providing children with the strong literacy foundations they require to access the broad and balanced curriculum we offer.
Our School Values of Determination, Aspiration, Reflection and Community enable our children to develop the skills required for lifelong learning and to prepare them for adulthood, their place in society and the world of work. These values are deeply embedded within our broad and balanced curriculum and lay at the heart of all we do. Each of our values are represented by a character, and children are encouraged to display attributes of each character and become a ‘STAR learner’.

At Cadland, our ambitious Curriculum is built upon our vision statement of ‘Believe together, Learn together, Succeed together’. Four key drivers underpin our curriculum to make our vision a reality: Building Schema (long-term memory webs); developing Cultural Capital (a knowledge of the best of human endeavours and experiences that help them make sense of the world); growing Aspirations for further learning and employment; and the acquisition of a broad Vocabulary range that allows for effective communication in the modern world.
The full range of core and foundation subjects have been carefully mapped out across school in clear progression frameworks, so that knowledge, understanding, skills and concepts build over time and are introduced in coherently sequenced and cognitively efficient ways. In our school, we believe that all future learning should be based on what has been learnt before – children at Cadland will learn more, remember more over time and therefore be able to do more. Knowledge becomes more ‘sticky’ and useful when it is integrated into knowledge webs and taught in a way where prior learning is repeatedly activated. As a result of this, we aspire for ALL children to leave Cadland having mastered a wide range of concepts and skills and gained the knowledge that gives them a love of learning, prepares them for their next steps and develops an understanding of the world in which they live.
As a school, we make full use of the skills of a wide range of professionals. Our children work with specialist coaches in P.E., alongside Musicians from Hampshire Music Service, with a secondary school Linguist as well as a coding specialist to enhance their computing skills.
Our curriculum will be enriched through a range of visitors, workshops and educational visits. We aim to provide learning experiences which the children will remember beyond their school days, strongly enhance their cultural capital as well as opening their eyes to the world of possibilities which awaits them.
