At Cadland Primary we like to promote alternatives to travelling to school by car. We do this because we want to make the roads safer for our children and because it has lots of other benefits too. It is much better for the environment to walk, ride or scoot to school and it is healthy too!
Cadland has been chosen to take part in a trial road closure until the end of October as part of the School Street initiative. This will make the road directly outside the front entrance much, much safer and encourage families to think about how they travel to school. The road will be closed between 8:15 and 9:00am and again between 2:30 and 3:15pm. The map below shows where the road closure will be (highlighed in red).
Initially, the school will man the road closure but we would love to be joined by members of the local community so if you would like to volunteer to support our plans to make the roads safer and to promote healthier travel habits that are also good for the environment then please do get in touch.
School Street Road Closure

There are lots of resources and useful information about our School Street on the link below
We understand that some families need to drive their children to school, either because they live out of our catchment area or because they need to go straight to, or are coming directly from, work. When a car journey is unavoidable, we strongly recommend parking further away and walking the rest of the journey to school. Not only deos this relieve congestion on the roads nearest school, it is also great exercise! We call this ‘Park & Stride’ and a map of suggested parking locations can be found on the link below.
You can also find lots of information and ideas on different ways to travel to school on the My Journey website
Parkwise Promise
We are participating in The Parkwise Promise, a council led initiative to create a safer environment on the roads closest to schools. The initiative aims to reduce inconsiderate and dangerous parking near to Cadland. It highlights some important points to consider including:
- No parking on the yellow zig zags
- No parking on or withing 10m of a junction
- No parking on pavements and verge
